On a client to client basis, the number of individual grafts that is required for the treatment can vary but as an average benchmark, the number of grafts per treatment are as follows;
- 350-500 grafts for the moustache area
- 600-700 grafts for the full goatee area
- 200-250 grafts for each sideburn
- 300-700 grafts for a cheek
While not a common occurrence, some patients request and require a second procedure to transplant additional grafts to achieve a thicker density with their beard.
As with a regular hair transplant procedure, the donor hairs for a facial hair transplant are extracted from the back or sides of the scalp. The choice of site is usually dependent on which offers the closest match to the facial hair structure. Once transplanted, the hairs are permanent and typically will grow as if they are natural facial hair, providing similar texture and other characteristics. The transplanted hair, once grown, can be shaved as you would with the rest of you facial hair without any adverse consequences.
